Dani Does The Foxposted: 3/16/2006

Soulful, country-rock may not be tops on your music list, but for 100-plus patrons at the Fox and Hound in Cordova, Tennessee - March 1st changed a lot of minds. Memphis native, Dani McCulloch and her band performed a variety of music and demonstrated their young talents to the crowd. Some people had never heard her perform, and some had no idea who she was. But when her long mane of blonde hair, her embroidered jeans and her pink suede shoes took the stage, everyone knew from the very first, beautiful note; they were going to be entertained. And, she made sure they werenít disappointed. The influence of her favorite artists such as Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Martina McBride and Reba McIntire clearly showed through the entire show. Sweet, smooth lyrics were well mixed with raspy tones of her idols. Her show included a generous sprinkling of her own music from her first CD, and a couple of teasers from her upcoming project. I first saw Dani at a Juvenile Diabetes Foundation charity event in 2002 and knew then she was destined for a great career. Her performance this night was a more mature, more refined, and definitely more diverse fast-forward of that 2002 memory. Foxís General manager, Dan Capullo, and his event coordinator, Jessica Maxwell had obviously spent a lot of time planning this event, and his entire staff miraculously transformed what has typically been known as a sports bar and restaurant, into a true performance venue. A venue complete with mood lighting, and acoustics tuned to this performerís style. Dani didnít capture the crowdís attention by herself. Her drummer Dave Kropf, bassist Jordan Garrison, keyboard guru Jock Copel, and lead guitarist Zach McAlexander provided smooth accompaniment and their own brand of entertainment. McAlexander excited the crowd more than once with his multi-key rifts and chair vaulting antics. Success hasnít altered Daniís caring, charitable focus. It has, however, transformed her into an entertainer worth keeping an eye on and inviting your friends to the next show.
